This post is a few weeks late but here’s to a #shotgirlsummer or #twodosesummer – whatever you want to call it. Thanks to the heroic efforts of folks at @VaxHuntersCan and their discord channel, I was able to book my second dose within days of the opening of eligibility of my first dose and helped my siblings book theirs as well so by the time this post goes live, we and along with many Canadians are a few weeks out from our second dose.
I suspect I’ll continue to double-mask indoors and continue to stay at home given some humid/rainy weather we’ve had these last few weeks even as we continue to lift restrictions and reopen businesses. After a wild ride of these last 15-17 months with many of us experiencing the confusion and disappointments of mixed messaging, thoughtless decision-making and when some semblance of hope came in the delivery of vaccines, the avoidable frustrations of the booking systems was the icing on the soiled cake that is the Ontario government.
But I digress. Let’s focus on some positive things here.
The Home Gym
Unlike many, I didn’t buy my gym equipment at the beginning at the pandemic, erroneously believing and sanguine in my belief that we’d be out of the woods by the summer. So by the time there was interest on my part to buy gym equipment, most items have been out of stock and/or are comically inflated in price that I put any thought of purchasing them in the back-burner.
Fast forward to a few months ago, I realized I don’t feel confident about returning to a shared gym even if there are bookings to ensure social distancing. Restocks on Costco led me to my purchases of a stationary bike and a remarkably costly set of rubber weights similar to those you use at the gym.
While they are expensive, I’ve kept a routine of working out 3-4x a week consistently this past two months. The fitness instructor currently kicking my butt? The fearsome Caroline Girvan of course. I’m on EPIC #1 and does her workout kick butt or what! I sometimes just have to go through the comments to to make sure I’m on the only one who’s barely keeping up with the workouts three minutes in.
Ever New Haul
Taking advantage of seasonal sales is always a good idea and I picked up a number of items to refresh my wardrobe from Ever New, for the next season.
I love much of their styles, especially their unique coats, one that I tend to have a bit of weakness and can’t help but purchase the various styles of! Let’s take a few examples – the Heather Petite Wrap Coat and the Iris Wrap Coat are perfect pieces for the Autumn season!
Finishing my haul with a few tops and blouses perfect for those Zoom calls including the casual Maddie Square neck rib tee and the casual Leilani Chambray Shirt! You can never have too many chambray shirts which can be worn nicely on its own, under or over another piece.
I’m a sucker for leather pencil skirts which can up any outfit, making them perfect for a fun night out or work-apporiate, depending on how you style it. I picked up the Alex Faux Leather Pencil Skirt in brown this time in addition to the black I already own!
