2020 is the year you wear makeup for being indoors – gotta look good for Zoom afterall. These days, my routine is fairly simple and focused on not looking too gaunt/washed up as the shorter days roll around. Just thought it might be a fun post to showcase a dialed-down routine and some of my favourite picks right now.
I kind of consider my beauty stash as my personal Sephora – It’s a personalized, carefully curated selection of what I think are some of the best products in the market. Although it may never rival the size of an actual Sephora store, it’s big enough for 1 person to last a lifetime.
My go-to makeup cleanser of all time is the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water ($26.95, available here) – it’s been something I’ve used for 7 years and it hasn’t failed me ever. I tend to come back to this during colder months as my skin tend to get a bit more sensitive with the weather!
A sunscreen is an essential product in my rotation as I love taking daily walks or go for a run after work to stretch my body / get my daily steps/exercise in. A sunscreen is something I’m trying to get better at using because it’s so easy to forget now that we spend a lot of time indoors / at home to avoid the spread of COVID. I’m currently using up one of my favourite sunscreen, the Shiseido Ultra Protection Cream ($42, available here) which can feel a little greasy in hotter weather but feels lighter on the skin in the colder months.
To cover up those pesky “maskne” I’ve been reaching for the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer ($10, available here), a dupe for the NARS Creamy Concealer at a fraction of the price. I stocked up on these I love the coverage, and lightweight feel on the skin!
When I do need a bit more coverage, I’ll use a bit of foundation mixed with moisturizer for a lighter coverage. I’m trying to finish up the MAC Studio Fix Fluid as it was my go-to foundation before the lockdown as I was so close to finishing it up and I’m trying to actually finish it and add it to my back to MAC pile before it expires.
For the brows, I’ve been using up the Benefit Gimme Brow. I feel defined brows will really frame the face with minimal makeup needed so this is a step I rarely skip. The Essence Make me Brow is my favourite dupe for the Benefit version that costs a mere $3.50 at the drugstores and looks exactly like its super pricey sister. I have been using the essence version and can’t tell the difference between this and the Benefit one, so once I finish the Benefit one, you can bet I’ll be picking up the essence brow version again!
What product(s) are your go-to lockdown routine right now?
