Almost two years ago, Philosophy joined the micellar water bandwagon and the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Micellar Water ($16-27, sephora.ca) is its first release along with the moisturizer and clay mask to join to cult-favourite Purity cleanser. I initially tried this product in 2018 but it appears to have been discontinued on Sephora, and now only available on the Philosophy website and a few retailers that still carry the Philosophy brand.
The Philosophy Purity Made Simple Micellar Water comes in a 250ml plastic, no-frill bottle. To be frank, the packaging on the moisturizer and micellar water almost felt drugstore-like and not that I mind the simplicity, it just makes the department-store price a little more difficult to swallow as a result. Unlike the moisturizer and the cleanser, there’s barely any scent to it at all. I like using this as a toner as well as to remove makeup.
The Philosophy Purity Made Simple Micellar Water works just as well as the drugstore micellar water. It removes most makeup in one swipe though it needs a little bit more work on the lashes. It’s a decent enough micellar water but probably not worth the price unless you’re really keen on the brand name.
It looks like Philosophy has also released Hydra-Essence with Coconut Water ($29, available here) recently to help nourish the skin as an extra step before applying your moisturizer.
Given the price point, this product is decidedly far more expensive than your drugstore offering for essentially the same size and quality. While Bioderma pioneered the whole micellar water trend, I’ve found most brands to have the same kind of quality and this isn’t really a product in your routine that you need to pay an exorbitant price for.
Bioderma remains my go-to micellar water brand of choice; it’s never failed me in the 7+ years I’ve been using it and with the frequency of sales / offers / value set special, Bioderma ends up being the better value product.
Overall, the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Micellar Water is a fairly average product; drugstore offerings are more varied, readily available and cheaper.
Have you tried the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Micellar Water
